Scott and I bought a washer and dryer. We feel like the "real deal" now. We have our own appliances. :) To get them, we had to drive out to this guys' house that was out in the country. I was driving and Scott was directing me where to go.
I saw on the road ahead something on the road. I couldn't really tell what it was because it blended into the road. It almost looked like a piece of garbage blowing in the breeze... and then I got closer.
I realized that it was a turtle making it's way across the highway. However, I realized too late. I swerved a little bit (as much as you would for a squirrel that can run), but it wasn't enough. Turtles are slow creatures, just like in the book the "Tortoise and the Hare." The poor little guy didn't have a chance. I hit him square on with my right tire. I realized he wasn't all that small, perhaps the size of a dinner plate.
I felt so bad, I just wanted to stop and cry. To make matters worse, we had to come back down the same road and I had the view all of the carnage. Poor little turtle, I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever see a turtle in the wild, let alone crossing the street. Who knew turtles crossed roads in Texas.

whitney has been living/working in texas and says there are tons of armadillos on the road... weird huh?
Oh man that just makes me cringe reading it. I can imagine the sound of the shell cracking under the tire--that's got to be worse than fingers on a chalkboard.
May it never happen again. I feel worse for you than I do the turtle. At least he's in a happy place now :)
Andrea & Phil helped a turtle cross the road when they were in Texas. So I guess turtles cross teh road all the time down there.
Donell
that is sad. I saw a turtle the other day at a pond and it made me day...Sorry you had to experience that.
I can't believe you hit a turtle...ohh if the animal rights people found out about this...... Just kidding....it reminded me of the time you hit those dogs when we were driving home that one night when it was really snowy.....maybe he was a suicidal turtle....it might not be your fault:)
It was probably someone's pet.
Sad! I would hate that feeling too. Congrats on the appliances though!
